Redmax Speedshop has been a cornerstone of the British custom motorcycle scene for decades. Founder Steve Hillary started turning wrenches and racing bikes from an early age.

Based near Tiverton in Devon, the shop has grown from a small Winchester bike shop into one of the UK’s most respected specialists in flat trackers and café racers, with a Ducati division that draws customers from across Europe and beyond.

Steve’s background reads like a tour of everything worth doing on two wheels. Drag racing, supermoto, enduro, sidecars, road racing, sprints, hill climbs. He built engines for British Superbike and Superstock teams, ran multiple Ducati dealerships, won awards from Ducati UK and the factory in Italy, and now races a genuine 1977 Harley XR750 in Shorttrack UK. That breadth of experience feeds directly into the work that comes out of the Devon workshop.

The team is small and genuine. Glenn is the chief fabricator and a master upholsterer. Richard handles the electrics with an enthusiasm for Motogadget wiring that borders on devotion. Rach runs parts and has sprinted a Harley café racer at Montlhéry. Tony, Steve’s father, still puts in a couple of days a week at 83. This is not a business built on branding; it’s built on people who actually ride what they build.

Redmax specialises in flat trackers, café racers and bobbers, with builds that are designed to be used rather than displayed. Hundreds of bespoke customs have gone out the door to customers around the world. The parts operation runs in parallel, with Redmax among the largest stockists of flat track parts globally, holding stock from the USA, UK, Europe and Italy alongside in-house manufactured components.

For Ducati owners, the workshop offers everything from routine servicing through to full Corse-spec engine builds, covering both two-valve and four-valve models.
